Top 7 Things that Half of Bloggers Need to Forget

If you’re a blogger or working your way into becoming one, here are seven things that you should forget.

Over the years, blogging never ceases to gain popularity. Around the same time the internet was being maximized for its use, blogging also started to gain popularity during the early to mid-90s.

Blogging increased an exponential growth in the 2000s, even reaching about an estimated 50 million different blogs, according to a report from Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere.

What is a Blog?

A blog (short for “weblog”) is an informational website that is used for various discussions often represented as text entries which are commonly called “posts.”

The first ever blog to be recognized as a post from 1994 from a man named Justin Hall, which was Linkz.net. However, the term “weblog” wasn’t coined until 1997, by Jorn Barger.

Kinds of Blogging

1. Personal blogs

A personal blog is considered as an online diary written by a single person rather than a company or organization. These types of blogs often obtain popularity if the individuals posting it are popular themselves.

Very few personal blogs that are hosted by lesser known people get to trend due to the lack of exposure.

2. Group blogs or collaborative blogs

This is a kind of blog that is written and handled by more than one person. Most collaborative blogs have themes that are based on politics, advocacy, technology, and various others.

Group blogs have become more popular nowadays due to some bloggers that are already established who team up with other bloggers to form collaborations which also ease their respective workloads.

3. Micro-blogging

A kind of blog that usually revolves around the use of small portions of content that are commonly pictures, videos, links, text, and other forms of media on the internet. Micro-blogs are often viewed by those who are looking to read less time-consuming blogs.

Business associates also use this kind of blog for scheduling purposes, friends that want to keep in touch, and even celebrities to showcase updates about their activities.

4. Corporate blogs

The use of a corporate blog is for a company to let the communication and engagement of its employees be enhanced. There are two types of corporate blogs, they are known as internal and external blogs.

Internal corporate blogs are only available for the company who created the said blog and their employees and staff.

External corporate, however, are used for business purposes, such as branding or marketing.

You could also classify blogs by their genre. Some of the examples include:

  • Political blogs
  • Journalism blogs
  • Health blogs
  • Travel blogs
  • Gardening blogs
  • House blogs
  • Book blogs
  • Fashion blogs
  • Beauty blogs
  • Lifestyle blogs
  • Party blogs
  • Photography blogs
  • Project blogs
  • Psychology Blogs
  • Sociology blogs
  • Education blogs
  • Niche blogs
  • Music blogs
  • Quizzing blogs

So basically whatever hobby or topic, there’s sure to be a blog about it.

As mainstream and useful as it has become, it hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows for some bloggers. While some gain popularity and recognition, some blogs often get lost in the mix due to some form of incompetence. If you’re a blogger or working your way into becoming one,

Here are seven things that you should forget:

1. Presenting false information:

For your blog to be successful, it has to be viewed by an audience, more importantly, a following. If you are offering information to people using a blog, it’s best if you do thorough research for the readers not to feel deceived or wronged.

2. Inconsistent Updates:

It’s one thing to produce an excellent blog, but when it comes to blogging, one isn’t enough. It’s hard to build a following if your blogging is inconsistent. Once you get people hooked on your blog, they will be craving for more.

When people start to notice that you are not consistent with the posting of your blog, there would be a high chance that they will become un-attracted to your blog. Remember, consistency is crucial.

3. Ignoring your readers:

If you have a blog, chances are your audience will have some type of communication or contact to you. They might contact you for different reasons like providing feedback and comments, give suggestions, make requests, or to have a discussion about the topic of your blog.

Whether good or bad, comments from your readers should never be ignored.

4. Copying another blogger

Some might say that that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when it comes to any type of content making, it isn’t. You might have read another blog that you like and want to make one that has the same quality, but drawing inspiration and taking notes from it is enough.

Copying or plagiarizing someone else’s work is very disrespectful to the owner, and constant copying won’t help you with the development of your blog-making skills.

5. Not developing a style

As said earlier, originality is essential when it comes to blogging. Along with originality, creativity is also necessary for blogging. With creativity and originality mixed, that’s where you create your style.

Having your style of blogging will make your blog stand out and get people hooked on it, hence enlarging your demographic.

6. Lack of Marketing

Starting up a blog is easy. All you need to is to type a topic you want to talk about and post it. One of the most significant challenges that people face in blogging is maintenance and consistency.

Most bloggers overlook marketing strategies to help improve the range of their blog. So you could say that bloggers should forget about disregarding the marketing of their blogs.

7. Creating enemies

Some bloggers take the opportunity of writing blogs to throw shade at people. Attacking people inevitably causes drama and controversy, and along those two, come views and publicity.

The attention you could gain might be useful for your blog, but you’re sure are to make enemies and haters along the way, and having those two won’t be right in the long run. So keep in mind that you should be careful and forget about causing drama.

With all of that said, there are undoubtedly a lot of ways to succeed when it comes to blogging. As time goes on, bloggers will surely learn from their mistakes and become greater in generating blogs. Just remember that as a blogger, it’s best to consider forgetting these seven things for the sake of your blogs.
